Each September, we take time to honor Suicide Prevention Month—a reminder that mental health matters and that no one has to struggle alone. Suicide is a leading cause of death worldwide, yet it is also one of the most preventable. By opening conversations, spreading awareness, and connecting people with support, we can make a difference.
If you or someone you love is struggling with thoughts of suicide, know that help is available. Talking about these feelings is not a sign of weakness—it’s a sign of strength. Sometimes the most important step is simply reaching out: to a trusted friend, a counselor, a family member, or a hotline.
This month, let’s all commit to:
Check in with friends, family, and colleagues. A simple “How are you, really?” can open a door.
Listen without judgment. Sometimes being present is more powerful than any advice.
Share resources. The Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by dialing 988 in the U.S.
Healing happens when we come together as a community of care and support. If you are reading this and feeling alone, please know your life matters. There is hope, and there is help.
